Recommendations for keeping this country free

June 5th, 2008

Once again we in America are faced with the candidates who will run this country. Right now there are two competing for the office of president. (Hillary Clinton is stepping down and will support Obama). As gun owners and Americans we must be very concerned with who will be the next president. As I see it there is only one candidate who will protect the second amendment. That candidate is Senator John McCain. As a senator John McCain has co-sponsored legislation on overturning the DC gun ban, opposes federal regulation of private gun sales, and voted against Clinton’s assault weapons ban. On the other hand, Obama and Hillary Clinton have always voted for gun control. It looks like there is a possibility that Obama and Clinton may run as a team in November. Both Obama and Clinton will push for liberal supreme court justices, will sign a U.N.Treaty for confiscation and banning of private ownership of firearms and will sign any gun control legislation.John McCain does not have a perfect record with Gun Control legislation, but he has never tried to hide his position on an issue and has the best pro gun voting history of the candidates. He was the only one of the three finalist that signed the Heller Amicus brief. Clinton and Obama refused to sigh the brief. For those who don’t know about the Heller case, it is District of Columbia v. Heller or the so called D.C. gun ban case. It is paramount that this November that we as gun owners get the word out and as a group join together and vote for the only pro-gun candidate- JOHN MCCAIN.

Firearm Safety Courses

June 2nd, 2008

Operating a firearm for any reason is serious and not something that you should do without the right type of training. There are plenty of qualified individuals out there that offer firearm safety courses. In many states, individuals are required to complete a safety course and have verification before they can get a permit for a concealed weapon or apply for a hunting license. This is done to ensure they are able to safely handle a weapon.

Most firearm safety courses are either free or very low cost. You may have to pay a bit for the materials and to cover the cost of the person offering the training. You want to attend a firearm safety course that is relevant for what your firearm needs are. You also want to go to one with very small classes so you can get the personal attention you need. Make sure all of your questions are answered before you leave the training program.

These firearm safety courses may be for a full day or a full weekend. Some of them are on weeknights to try to accommodate the schedules of everyone. The age group may be for those ten and up as that is when a person can get a hunting license in most states. You may prefer to take a firearm safety course that is all full of kids or all full of adults depending on your needs.

There are also online firearm safety courses that a person can take if they don’t have one locally or one that fits into their schedule. There are plenty of places to check for local firearm safety courses though. Ask the retailers in your area that sell firearms as they will either be offering such training or know who is. If there is a rifle range in your area they should offer them as well.

There is a great deal of information to be learned at an effective firearm safety course. Make sure the person teaching it is qualified to do so. There are many sports and hobbies out there that a person can enjoy using a firearm. It can also offer you the personal protection you are interested in. Yet knowing how to safely handle and operate a firearm is a priority that everyone involved in these activities needs to know.
